Edwards and Gary O'Neil Included in Wolverhampton Wanderers Head Coach Candidates

Rob Edwards and Gary O'Neil represent the early candidates in the frame to succeed Vitor Pereira as head coach of Wolves.

Pereira was sacked on Sunday following the squad's 10-match winless start to the Premier League campaign.

Furthermore both candidates - each of whom have previous associations to the club - are among the options to be evaluated by the club ownership.

Edwards is presently at Middlesbrough, which would create a potential hurdle to his hiring at Wolves' stadium.

However the former Luton Town head coach - who made more than 100 of appearances for the club during his playing career - is considered a strong contender for the vacancy.

The mid-career manager is said to have backing from the club directors as they start the search of hiring a fresh manager.

Gary O'Neil is also emerging as a unexpected contender, even though he would be a shock appointment considering he was released by Wolves in the previous winter.

The former West Ham midfielder is currently unemployed which means Wolves would not be required to pay any compensation.
