Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Allegations Involving Wide Receiver the Athlete

The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment on Wednesday evening stating they are aware of claims of abuse made public in social media posts by a ex-partner of player the athlete and had been in contact with the league office.

The organization did not mention Rice specifically in their announcement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Claims Shared on Instagram

The woman, who also did not mention Rice by name, posted a series of photos on Instagram that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. She stated the person involved was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has two children with the football player, whom the Chiefs selected in the 2023 draft.

Police Reports Currently Not on File

No police reports were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have taken place.

Player's Prior Legal Issues

The receiver missed the initial part of this season following an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that resulted in several individuals hurt. Rice was given 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to serious offenses.

Statistically, Rice concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five TDs as the Chiefs finished 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
